Good Time Management Skills Video Recap
1. Better time management is critical when you’re working full time and running a business.
If you don’t manage your own time, someone else will do it for you. And anyone who runs a business can tell you that time is money! That’s why it’s imperative that you stop procrastinating, get your shit together and get to business!
Time is the most valuable thing we have on this planet, and if you want to make a living running your own business then you’re going to have to learn how to better manage your time.
2. Commit to dedicating the time necessary to creating your business. This is half the battle!
Paula Pant has this quote that says “When someone says they don’t have time what they actually mean is they don’t want to make it a priority.” This is absolutely true when it comes to running a business.
I often times talk to people who complain they don’t have any free time but then they spend hours watching a Real Housewives marathon. (Okay, so I’ve totally been guilty of this too!) The point is you probably do have time, you’re just not spending it on activities that will lead to a better business.
As the now popular saying goes, you have the same 24 hours in a day as Beyonce.
3. Track your activities for a week and notice what you are spending your time on. Differentiate between activities that lead to income and those that do not.
Conducting a time audit has been one of the most beneficial things I have ever done for my business. My first time audit was back in the beginning of 2014. I tracked what I was spending my time on for 2 weeks straight and came to realize I was wasting a lot of it. Whether it was because I decided to watch TV when I could have been landing a client, or whether I was spending hours in my inbox instead of creating my next product, it was an incredibly eye-opening exercise.
4. Start spending your time on activities that lead to income.
This will make all the difference in whether or not you can build your business and quit your job. Spending eight hours a day on Facebook will not get you paid. Blogging will not get you paid. Making videos will not get you paid. Don’t get me wrong, these things are all important for marketing, but marketing alone isn’t what pays the bills.
You need to make sure you’re spending time landing new clients, doing work that pays and creating your next offering.
