Don’t Start a Coaching Business Until You Watch This First

start a coaching business

A couple of years ago, I wrote a scathing piece for Inc where I predicted the coaching business industry was going to implode. Well, I was kind of right. More and more people have tried to start a coaching business, and many are realizing it’s not as easy or as glamorous as they thought it would be.

The other thing I’ve noticed is people thinking that entrepreneurship is going to fix all their financial woes. They ask me things like “What business can I get into to make the most amount of money?” or “How can I make money really fast?”

And this is NOT the kind of attitude you want to take on when starting a coaching business (or any business)!

In this week’s Biz Tip Thursday segment, I address the kind of attitude you definitely don’t want if you expect to make it in business.

The attitude you DO want when starting a coaching business

If you’re going to start a coaching a business, you need to come from a place of service. If you’re doing it just because you think it will make you a ton of cash, it’s really not going to work out for you.

That means you need to be passionate about helping people solve a problem. All successful businesses solve a problem for their customers. This is step one. From there, you can learn about the more practical stuff – sales, marketing, finances – as you go.
