If you want to make money online in 2024, you’ll want to avoid these six common mistakes that keep people from success. This video comes as a request from someone in our YouTube community who wanted me to do a video helping business owners who want to make money online in 2024 and hasn’t yet earned six figures in their business.
This video on how to make money online in 2024 is based on over a decade of experience in digital marketing. Think of it as 10 years of business experience in 10 minutes to help you make money online in 2024.
Here are the six common mistakes new entrepreneurs make when they try to make money online. Each of these is expounded upon in the video above.
1. Not having clear messaging
If you want to make money online in 2024, you need to have very clear messaging in terms of who you help and how you help them. Often times, beginning businesses are still very fuzzy on their messaging which causes confusion. And as well all know, a confused mind does not buy.
2. Not solving expensive enough problems
If you want to make money online, then the easiest way to do it is to solve expensive problems. In other words, solve big enough problems that you can charge a lot of money for.

3. Not being consistent with your marketing
One of my favorite quotes about marketing is from Grant Cardone where he says “Best known beats best.” Meaning, the market works in such a way that whoever is the most known will always make more money even if their product of service is mediocre in comparison to their competitors.
It doesn’t mean have a crappy product, it just means you want to make money online in 2024 need to market yourself relentlessly or people with crappy products will still make more money than you. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s the truth.
I recently had a client get more consistent with their marketing – in this case posting something every day on their social profiles – and within a week they had 30 new leads engaging with them.
3. Avoiding sales
You cannot make money online – or even offline – if you are avoiding sales. Sales is the lifeblood of any business, it’s the only force on the planet that makes money move and it’s a skill worth knowing not just if you want success in business, but if you want to become a better communicator and negotiator overall.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to understand sales, yet so many people try to avoid it simply because they don’t understand it or aren’t well trained. That’s why I’ve been training students on sales process and sales skills since 2017 in our Persuade to Profit program.
4. Making emotional decisions in business.
If you want to make money online in 2024, you need to stop being emotional in business. Letting our emotions take over in business clouds the facts and makes it unclear for us to know what decisions to make to move forward.
This happens to all of us at some point because we’re human, so I suggest just being mindful of when you are letting your emotions take over.
5. Not thinking about your exit from the beginning
Most people do not think about exit strategies in business which leads to people ending up in business models they cannot scale. Eventually, you want a business to run a bit more like a well-oiled machine without needing so much effort from you.
It takes time to get there, which is why we should be having this conversation from the very beginning of the entrepreneurial journey. The problem is most people don’t.
Those are the top five mistakes I see entrepreneurs making when they want to make money online in 2024 or any other year.
If you can avoid these five mistakes, you will be much further ahead than most entrepreneurs on social media.
